Birds Of Paradise

This project wasn’t a module however, this was a project I worked in within uni times as it was a chance to work with two companies.

For this project I designed and created dance wear inspired by the Birds Of Paradise exhibition which was showing at the Bowes Museum in Bishop Auckland.  The dance wear was made for a dance group called Fertile Ground from Newcastle.

Above shows the front view of the costume. I made a halterneck crop top which was backless. I put four layers of feathers on the collar of the top.

You can see the backless side of the halterneck top. Like the front I put numerous layers of feathers on the back of the top, in between I put layers of net between each line of feathers to make the feathers stiff and add body to layers.

The bottom half of the costume was a high wasted pair of pants with an elasticated chiffon skirt which had a water fall effect on the back of the skirt.
